With the heavy doses of last week’s truth serum finally wearing off, the Senior Staff is back to a tried and true style of episode. Yep, we’re sticking with what brought us to the dance: each picking a record to talk about. This week, it’s a peculiar sophomore LP from Rosetta Stone and a groovy release from KMFDM side project Excessive Force. This ain’t your mama’s podcast: we’re sayin’ it! Nice podcast! I agree that Gentle Death is the stronger of the two Excessive Force albums, and I do miss the funk element that flavored many older KMFDM releases and associated projects. Unlike you guys, I like current KMFDM as well, but I admit I have a soft spot for the band being that they were one of the first bands in the scene that I listened to. Their more recent albums are indeed spotty (Our Time will Come in particular is a creative nadir and the band accordingly played none of the songs from it on their recent tour that I recall) , but I’ll defend Hell Yeah as their strongest record since the turn of the millennium; it really features some of Lucia’s best work with the lineup for one, whereas most of the older songs with her on vocals tended to sound like a separate project.
There was talk about Sascha reviving Excessive Force with Andy from Combichrist back in 06-07, but I’m glad it didn’t happen for a number of reasons. Sacha also added that he was rather iffy about bringing the Excessive Force moniker back because there’s also a white power band operating under the same name.
