We Have a Technical 70: All Credibility Lost
Morning, gang! As you read this and/or listen to this week’s episode of We Have A Technical, we’re heading out to or partying it up in Chicago for Cold Waves. We’ll have plenty of talk about the fest after the fact, but for this week we thought it’d be fun to answer some of the questions folks have been sending us recently. How do lyrics in industrial factor into our experience of it? What does “technoid” actually mean? What’s in those goofy shooters you guys are always doing? All these questions and so many more are discussed on the latest episode of We Have A Technical, the net’s spoopiest industrial podcast. Great episode! I’m not sure I agree on the idea that punk and industrial aren’t analogous. If you look at how punk had evolved, been declared dead, reclassified, etc. there are quite a few parallels to industrial music.
A lot of people now equate “punk rock” with bands like Green Day. Which seems pretty similar to how industrial became repurposed for music like futurepop. They also shared some ideological and cultural roots, so there’s a lot to draw from when making comparisons.
That said, you’re definitely right about the “punk rock of x” thing.
That mailbag reminded me of a dream I had a few weeks ago in which I was on this site and read a review of a new :wumpscut: album. Apparently it was the best :w: album since Embryodead. I have never been more saddened upon waking and realizing that a dream was not real.
Great podcast as always. Normally when someone asks me about my musical preferences I just talk about classic rock. Works well for me as I appear more of a nerd than a goth to all but my closest friends.
Spoopy!
