In addition to the record’s searing indictment of the intertwining of capitalism and fascism at the expense of the working class, it marks a turning point for the band, with their classic industrial percussive sound now being tempered with an increased focus on sampling and programming, pointing the way forward for post-industrial music. I felt strangely sad seeing TD in 2022 & 2023, I can’t imagine what they’re feeling because like you say, they warned us and threw everything into standing against things and here we are now with *gestures at the world* everything. It must hurt and be frustrating, having fought so hard only to see recent times happen as they have
I asked Ogre about something similar when i met him at a horror con about 10 years ago. How did he feel preaching against chemical weapons, poisoning the earth, etc. and have it still occurring decades later. His response was that he was resolute and gratified being on the right side of history (something to that effect, i’m paraphrasing). Then went on about the crisis of Fukushima Daiichi and the release of radioactive wastewater into the pacific.
