After a far too long absence, it’s the return of our popular Pick Five format! Slower club tunes are the subject of the day, with Alex and Bruce each selecting five lower-BPM tracks they like to play out to cool the floor out while still keeping it packed. We’re also talking about the recently announced NIN tour dates, and the wave of hype pertaining to their gig with Ministry and Nitzer Ebb. When I was DJ’ing more regularly, like years ago, the “slow jam” I would use to slow things down and chill out for a few tracks was almost always The Isolators Feat. Bébé – Interdit Ce Soir (Freak Electrique remix). Its got soul, groove, space, mystery, drama, and more than a few places to smoothly transition out. Recently came to mind because I’ve been trying to get back into DJ oriented stuff. Enjoy.
Definitely agree with “Lightbringer”. That “Monster” track by Kanga has just entered my set lists, too, and I’ve played “Indomitus” twice already in some of my more downtempo sets.
Some of my other sub-100 BPM favourites include: SHIV-R’s Sleepless Droids remix of “Wolves”, “Gravedigger” by MXMS, and “Pushing It” by Venus In Aries. A couple from the synthwave genre I used to play were “The Drone Racing League” by Gunship (in spite of them working with Queen of Trash herself, KVD) and “Future Club” by Perturbator.
And we’d be remiss to NOT talk about the 90 BPM banger “Closer” by NIN. I mean…give me shit about it but that is THE pinnacle industrial slow club jam.
Hah! For real though, for years “Terrible Lie” was my “get out of jail free” card because it was slow, could go out of or into anything and was guaranteed to get people on the floor. It still probably does, but I try to avoid the break-glass-in-case-of-emergency mindset. Good picks too, a couple I need to check out!
the drone racing league is an awesome song, nice choice
