The reaction to our running full-album commentary episodes has been pretty positive, so we thought we’d tackle both a personal favourite and the foundation for this here website’s entire aesthetic: Gary Numan’s classic 1980 album Telekon. Thrill to our mildly amusing historical anecdotes and baseless theories about Uncle Gary’s mental state at the time of recording on this, another sure-to-be-classic episode of We Have a Technical! This was great! Got pretty salty at the end. Haha. I love it! The PlaidBeardo catalogue puts me to sleep. 🙂
I grew up listening to Gary Numan and had the pleasure of meeting and hanging out with him for a whole day in Toronto. When you look back and listen, the man was so ahead of his time. People can put depeche mode and others at the forefront but NO ONE did what Gary Numan did. He changed the scene during the time. Human League couldn’t get it done, Ultravox as well, John Foxx and others couldn’t. Gary Numan was the 1st and most successful British Artist at the time. When he played top of the pops, everyone one freaked out. His new music is still relevant as is he. The British Music Industry should honour this man as one of the greatest British artists of all time.
